3D PRINTING & FEA Validation

Two people discussing designs on a laptop.

Validating Aluminium Extrusions Before Production

At Amden Engineering, we utilise finite element analysis (FEA), CAD-based engineering review, and 3D printing prototyping to de-risk aluminium profiling development and ensure that designs are production-ready from the outset.

Optimising Designs Before Tooling Investment

FEA, or finite element analysis, is most powerful when utilized as a design optimisation tool during 3D printing prototyping rather than just as a final verification step. By identifying inefficiencies early on, we can refine aluminium profiling to enhance performance and reduce costs before tooling is manufactured.

Typical optimisation outcomes include:

- Improved stiffness-to-weight ratio

- Reduced unnecessary material usage

- Reinforced high-stress regions

- Simplified geometry for improved extrudability

- Better load distribution through the profile

3D Printing for Physical Validation

While finite element analysis (FEA) provides valuable simulation-based insights, 3D printing prototyping allows for physical, hands-on evaluation of extrusion concepts before committing to tooling.

We use 3D printed models to validate:

- Fit and interface with mating components

- Assembly alignment and tolerance stack-ups

- Ergonomics and handling characteristics

- Visual appearance and design intent

- Functional clearances and installation constraints

- Early-stage prototype testing and demonstration for aluminium profiling.
